Washington Wolves Club Completes a Successful Weekend
|The A level team defeated the Chespeake Bay Lightning by a score of 2-1. These two teams will face off again this upcoming weekend in the first round of the MAWHL playoffs. The Wolves have had the upper hand in the majority of their meetings this season and will look towards keeping that success in tact.|
The B level team started out the weekend Friday night in the first round of the Southeast District Affiliate playoffs against the Baltimore Blizzard. The Wolves were able to get on the board first and had good control of the game to start. However, a season ending injury to captain Stephanie Cuilla (separated shoulder) mid-way through the game took its toll on the team both spirit wise and with shortening the bench. The Blizzard held on for a 5-3 win.
On Saturday, the Wolves traveled up to PA to complete their regular season with a make-up game against the Central Penn Blades. Kathy Keegan started off the scoring with an amazing deke move and Rachel Tardiff added another hat trick to her scoring lead in route to a 4-0 win.
On Sunday, the Wolves completed their play in the Southeast District tournament. Brenda Jorgensen got her second straight shutout and Kate Pripusich-Sienkiewicz notched her first career hat-trick in a 8-0 win over the Richmond Raptors.
The Wolves B team will end their season this weekend as they participate in an MAWHL playoffs against the Philadelphia Freeze.
The C team completed its regular season schedule this weekend with a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Blizzard and finishing in 2nd place. Scoring for the Wolves were Leigh Garbowski, Jennifer Carr, and Michelle Riggs. Nancy Delagi was solid in net, making 15 saves and propelling her team to victory.
The Wolves face the Frederick Firestorm in the first round of the MAWHL playoffs.
